Description
The tile whose design this painting depicts can be seen in the Louvre, Paris, and dates from Ottoman Damascus in the last half of the 16th century. Arthur Millner, in his book Damascus Tiles, states: “This naturalistic design relates to the dado tiles in the Darwishiyya Mosque.”
